The Origin of river Yamuna originates from the Yamunotri glacier in uttrakhand, It rises up to aprox 6,000 meters above sea level, and this lies against a sharp slope just below the top of the Kalind peak in Uttrakhand at Uttarkashi District. then Yamuna comes down into Saptarishi Kund and then streams flows in a series of waterfalls. As per ancient story of Ramayana Lord Hanuman doused the fire of his tail in the chilly waters of river Yamuna at the place Banderpooch. This is the reason that this peak is called Bander Pooch or monkey tail. The Asit Muni used to bath both in river Yamuna and Ganga, during his old age he was not able to travel to Gangotri. To solve this problem of Muni’s problem, a stream of river Ganga started to flow beside that of river Yamuna. This is the story of Origin of Yamuna River.
YAMUNOTRI DHAM TEMPLE IN UTTRAKHAND

• SURYA KUND (THE POND OF THE SUN)
Very near to the Yamuna Devi temple there are many
hot water springs; the most significant among them is the Surya Kund. It holds
the boiling-hot water as it emerges from the crevices in the mountain. People
boil rice and potatoes by tying them in a cloth (preferably muslin cloth) and
consider them a Prasad (religious offering) from Goddess Yamuna.
